The history of gingerbread

Did youn know, that:
*Gingerbread was first made in Mesopotamia a couple of thousand years ago, used to cure deseases
*The best gingerbreads were made in Germany, Nürnberg. These gingerbreads where known for their golden icing and where used as money in Nürnberg.
*At first, gingerbreads where only made by catholic munks, who
usually made angels and saints.
*The dough(containing wheat, honey and soda) was kept in a cast for several years, before gingerbreads were formed.
*According to the swedish tradition, you can make a wish, using a gingerbread.
First, you have to put a gingerbread in your palm and then make a wish. Then, you have to brake the gingerbread with your other hand. If the gingerbread brakes in to three, the wish will vome true.
*Gingerbread-making is well-known all over europe. Only the recipies are a little different – like in France, they put a lot of spices in the gingerbreads (orange peels, cogniac, ginger etc), while in sweden they dont use so much spices- only cinnamon and clove.
*A doctor wrote a descreption for gingerbreads to the swedish King Hans, to cure his depression. At that time gingerbreads were really believed to cure deseases.
